A Global Zoom Event
Featuring Demonstrations and Teaching by:
MICHELLE DUNAWAY & NANCY GUZIK
The Richard Schmid Fine Art Foundation warmly invites you to a unique, global Zoom event celebrating the artistic legacy and enduring teaching spirit of Richard Schmid.
EVENT OVERVIEW:
- This day features live oil painting demonstrations by acclaimed artists Michelle Dunaway and Nancy Guzik, whose work and insights have been deeply influenced by Richard’s teachings.
- Together, they will explore the profound concepts of DESIGN STRUCTURE, inspired by Richard’s short essay on page 96 of his latest book, PORTRAIT AND FIGURE PAINTINGS.
- Richard writes, “I am always thinking of a value design. The aspects of my painting are all about design and value patterns.” He spoke of the way light shapes on light and dark backgrounds intertwine—creating a dance of values, subtle shifts in color, and expressive form.
- Michelle and Nancy will also speak to the pursuit of excellence—a guiding thread Michelle observed throughout his latest book, PORTRAIT AND FIGURE PAINTINGS. Michelle shares: “About a third of the way through my first viewing of Richard’s new book, I had to pause—stunned by the sheer range of techniques and mediums he had mastered. Beyond the technical brilliance, what struck me most was the consistent presence of something deeper: a profound, unwavering commitment to excellence woven through every piece.”
- Interactive Q&A and open chat discussion and questions welcome.
- Moderators: Joe Hawkins and Symi Jackson
COST: $25.00
- Includes two full months of access to the event recording.
- A meaningful chance to grow your artistic skills and creative insight.
- Your registration fee supports the ongoing work of the Richard Schmid Fine Art Foundation (RSFAF) and furthers Richard’s enduring mission: to advance fine art education, celebrate artistic excellence, and help create a future museum—for artists like you!
In preparation:
We encourage all attendees to read Chapter Ten – COMPOSITION in ALLA PRIMA II, focusing especially on pages 257, 259, 261, and 263 for good visual examples and insight. One guiding principle: “Knowing what we wish to say comes first; the design then follows effortlessly.” Please also read Richard’s short essay on DESIGN STRUCTURE, page 96 in his book, PORTRAIT AND FIGURE PAINTINGS.
Let this be your opportunity to deepen your understanding of design and composition—two of the most vital (and joyful!) elements in creating powerful, expressive paintings.
Be inspired. Learn deeply. Celebrate the legacy.
We look forward to learning and discovering with you.
Check back for registration in May!
