Join us for an unforgettable three days in Chicago honoring the life, legacy, and extraordinary artistry of Richard Schmid in the company of seven renowned artists who carry his spirit forward.

Events will be hosted both virtually and in person (live):
Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Arts, 1012 N Dearborn St 3rd Floor Studio, Chicago, IL — the very place where Richard served as President and created more than one hundred portraits alongside fellow P&C members.
Ruth Page Center for the Arts, 1016 N. Dearborn Street (located right next door to P&C)
THE LEGACY LUNCHEON at the Newberry Library – Ruggles Hall, 60 W. Walton Street (one block from the P&C.

The Richard Schmid Exhibition — A Historic Showcase

This landmark exhibition presents 36 masterworks created by Richard Schmid at the Palette & Chisel, alongside a curated selection of his landscape and still-life paintings. Together, these works offer a rare opportunity to experience Schmid’s artistry up close and to study the depth of his vision, technique, and legacy.

The exhibition also features paintings by The Seven Legendary Artists, whose works will be on display, providing an exceptional chance to learn from and be inspired by multiple masters in one historic setting.

A Rare Educational Month
Visitors—whether you visit alone, with friends, or as part of a class, there’s something to learn at every turn. Each painting is accompanied by a concise essay written to deepen your understanding of the artist’s work, offering insight into every piece.

In addition to the Exhibition, we invite you to a full series of educational and fine art programs.

Open Studios: A chance to paint, observe, and soak in the creative energy and light where Richard Schmid painted.

  • The Legacy Luncheon & Premieres at the Newberry Library 
    Join us for a distinguished luncheon featuring awards presentations, the premiere of a short documentary by Joe Hawkins, the Doodle Fundraiser, raffles, and a captivating lecture by fine art historian Ann Witheridge, “The Emergence of Bravura Brushwork and the Alla Prima Painting Technique,” raffles, auction, and more!
  • Evening: A private preview for our VIP guests with the artists, accompanied by films, speakers, gifts, & surprises.

SATURDAY & SUNDAY, OCTOBER 3rd & 4th
A momentous weekend featuring the Schmid Exhibition, artist demonstrations, short films, important auctions, and the formal dedication of the historical third floor of the P&C to Richard Schmid—an important moment in history!
